Space, Time, and Relativity: The Next Frontier by Joshua Thomas, the 2nd place winner of the 2025 Catalyst Creative Contest
Joshua Thomas is a second-year Molecular Biology student pursuing a Bridging Disciplines Program (BDP) Certificate in Social Inequality, Health, and Policy. This piece represents what he believes science to be: the exploration of the next frontier—pushing beyond the known into the vast unknown.
When we think of science as children, we often imagine astronauts, space exploration, and the infinite possibilities that lie beyond our atmosphere. I wanted to capture that spirit of curiosity and ambition in this piece. The stark contrast between the all-white background and the dark, imposing figures gives a sense of movement and direction, reflecting both the weight of discovery and the boundless drive to go further. This drawing is a tribute to pioneers, past and future, who dare to challenge limits and redefine what is possible. Science, much like art, is about seeing beyond what is in front of us and imagining what could be.
