“My name is Annie Nguyen, and I’m a first-year Neuroscience major on the pre-dental track. Art, to me, is not just a means of self-expression but also a powerful tool for amplifying the voices of those unheard. Dr. Paul Kalanithi was an American neurosurgeon and writer who wrote a memoir about facing mortality after being diagnosed with stage IV metastatic lung cancer. Inspired by his memoir When Breath Becomes Air, my piece “When Knowledge Becomes Inspiration” is a continuous line drawing that represents the transformation of knowledge from Kalanithi, as a neurosurgeon, to those touched and inspired by his words as a writer. Even after his passing, his legacy lives on through the beauty of energy transformation.”
