Catalyst Reports: What Got You Interested in Science?

By Rose Nguyen

Do you remember what first sparked your interested in science? Was it your family, a book or maybe your own natural curiosity?

I remember my first encounter. When I first started learning how to read, my uncle and older brother gave me these kid’s science encyclopedias. I recall loving those books and moving on to ones about scientific experiments and actually trying to do them myself—although I had a very unpleasant incident with bleach one time. As I grew older, I had teachers and role models that perpetuated the interest in me.

I went around to survey students in the College of Natural Sciences to see what sparked their interests. I received a variety of answers, from family being in the medical field to a favorite childhood science museum. Discover it in this video with your peers.
